• — The Tropical island series was created after visiting a Chinese tropical island. I wanted to capture my feelings after taking in its weather, humid tropical climate as well as the eastern inclination towards contemplation and calmness. That is how this series of mokuhanga engravings came to be. Every piece has 5 imprints, each of which is unique fue to monotypical technique. Pieces are made on Japanese Washi paper, which is thicker and more durable than rice paper. One work is done in a new bas-relief technique and colored with watercolors.*
