TIMOFEY ILLARIONOV

llarionov is an artist with an architect’s training who describes his works as an intersection of graphic design, colour abstraction and mechanical drawing. The painting is just as important as its surroundings. 'The viewer usually sees a painting from a distance, so I always start with one symbol or a detail. I source these symbols from my immediate surroundings. It can be an object, a part of an object or even a silhouette. The canvas is also a symbol. It’s a rectangular shape that is the backdrop for my objects, and I explore their relationship.' Ilalrionov depicts typical scenes from daily life, as well as absurd events and made-up stories. He draws his inspiration from the 1990s’ aesthetics, the lives of common people, and the funny and the sad sides of contemporary Russia.
